Speedometer needle removal:

DO NOT PRY UP ON THE NEEDLE TO REMOVE! This is the trickiest part of the job. The needle is pressed onto a shaft that

is extremely thin. It feels like a pretty tough metal, but you need to be careful here. Do not pull straight up. Do not put

any torque on the shaft. Rotate the speedometer needle counter-clockwise, you may have to gently lift the needle

above the needle stop, until it hits a stop point. This stopping point is the internal stop. Gently continue to rotate the

needle while also gently applying a small amount of upwards tension at the same time. The friction is all that is

holding the needle to the shaft. Keep turning and applying a small amount of upwards tension until the needle comes off.

Do not force it.

Tooth gear — (911/928/930/944/964 US, European and Asian) —
Please choose a tooth count.

Product List

It is best to count the teeth before ordering.

* Most 944s with electronic speedometers/odometers use a 20 x 21 tooth odometer gear. However, a small number of 944s use a 20 x 22 tooth gear. You will have to disassemble the speedometer first to determine exactly which gear you need. If the gear has been destroyed to the point it is impossible to determine the number of gear teeth, you may have to purchase two gears and experiment with each to determine the correct gear for your particular car.

If you have a question of which to order, ask yourself this, do I want to pull the unit a part again later? If no, get both and install both. You are saving your time by doing the fix right the first time. It is best to count the teeth on the gear and pod before ordering to make sure you receive the correct gear the first time.
