When you first turn the ignition switch to the run position, all of the gauges move to the furthest mark of the gauge and then resets to the lowest (sweeps low to high). There is one gear per gauge: speedometer, tachometer, temperature and fuel. These gears are located inside of the stepper motor that attaches to each needle. These gears are mainly for repair facilities as you must use a Mercedes SDS to initialize and synchronize the motors after repair. The pictures to the left have a pencil eraser in the middle for size comparison as these gears are very tiny.

There are two gears that can possibly go bad on this chassis vehicle. The transmission gear, which is this gear and the gear inside of the wiper motor. We do not offer the wiper motor gear as it is not cost effective to produce and the wiper motor cost around $175.00 through the aftermarket. If you require the wiper motor it is best to have the Mercedes part number off the old unit as there are several versions.
